Synergy operating system. The creators of the atomic bomb, together with postgres professional, released a subd for working with state secrets Development of a platform based on Synergy OS

Synergy is an interesting functional application designed to improve the interaction between multiple computers. Using its set of tools, users can use one mouse and keyboard on multiple computers at once. Active user actions will be repeated on all network devices, since the program uses a special TCP / IP transfer protocol through port 24800.

Before starting work with the program, it is recommended to check the status and availability of the port, because otherwise, the functionality of the utility will not work. The only drawback of the application is the lack of a transmission encryption tool, so the channel can be intercepted by third parties or malware. In order to prevent this from happening, you should adapt the tunneled network connection or connect security plug-ins.

The RFNC-VNIIEF nuclear center, which is part of Rosatom, has completed the creation of the Synergy-DB DBMS. The system was created on the basis of PostgreSQL open source DBMS. "Synergy-DB" makes it possible to apply mandatory access control, which makes it suitable for working with high-level state secrets.

Development of "Synergy-DB"

The Russian Nuclear Center Federal State Unitary Enterprise "RFNC-VNIIEF" has completed the development of a secure database management system "Synergy-BD". The system was created on the basis of PostgreSQL open source DBMS. PostgreSQL is a relational DBMS for UNIX-like platforms, written by the developer community of the same name in the SQL language, with the addition of C and C ++.

Direct work on the creation of the Synergy-DB system was performed by the Russian company Postgres Professional, founded by PostgreSQL developers and awarded a contract based on the results of an open tender. According to the head of the RFNC-VNIIEF project Andrey Popov The contractor did a good job.

The development took place under the contract, which was received by Postgres Professional LLC (Postgres Professional) following the results of the RFNC-VNIIEF tender, which ended in October 2016. With a starting price of the lot of p 26.7 million, the contract with the winner was concluded for p 26 .2 million. No one competed in the company's tender.

In a conversation with CNews, CEO of Postgres Professional Oleg Bartunov confirmed that all work was carried out within the framework of this contract.

Scope and Compatibility

"Synergy-DB" can be used to store data at enterprises that need an increased level of information security. Potential customers are representatives of the nuclear weapons and defense industries, as well as federal and regional government agencies.

The nuclear center of RFNC-VNIIEF is located in the closed city of Sarov

"Synergy-DB" allows you to organize access for a large number of users to data of varying degrees of secrecy. It is designed to work with two domestic operating systems - "Synergy-OS v.1.0" and Astra Linux Special Edition. Thanks to this, the DBMS receives data about user credentials through the security provider.

Security providers have a modular structure. This allows you to expand the list of supported operating systems without changing the source code. At the same time, the DBMS is certified as a separate product from the OS, so it can be customized to the requirements of a particular customer and the resulting modification can be quickly certified. Supported OS vendors will not be related to this process.

Access control

"Synergy-DB" uses discretionary differentiation of access rights, that is, for each user in relation to each information object, access rights are set separately. This can be done either by the owner assigned to the object, or by the administrator of the entire system.

Discretionary differentiation in "Synergy-DB" is combined with mandatory access control, in which each information object has its own confidentiality label, on the basis of which users are given permission to familiarize themselves with this data. The Federal Service for Technical and Export Control (FSTEC) of Russia stipulates mandate management as mandatory when working with high-level state secrets - 1B and 1B.

Mandatory management can be found in DBMS Linter, Oracle Database and PostgreSQL starting from version 9.2. Like discretionary demarcation, it is implemented in Astra Linux Special Edition OS. SUSE Linux and Ubuntu have the AppArmor mandatory access control system.

"Synergy-DB" allows you to identify and authenticate, as well as clear the RAM and permanent memory after use. The security event logging module is independent of system logging. The developers claim that Synergy-DB implements all PostgreSQL features.

Who participated in the project

The Russian Federal Nuclear Center - All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC-VNIIEF) is a federal state unitary enterprise (FSUE) within the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom. The Institute, founded in 1946, is located in the closed city of Sarov, Nizhny Novgorod Region. Over the years of its existence, the center has made a great contribution to the implementation of the nuclear weapons program of the USSR. In 2011, the institute launched the most powerful supercomputer in the Russian Federation at that time. In the same year, the active development of the IT direction began, as a result of which in 2016 a secure system for managing the full life cycle of products "Digital Enterprise" was created.

Postgres Professional was founded by three Russian developers of the PostgreSQL DBMS, including Oleg Bartunov, CEO of the company. In 2015, a consortium led by Postgres Professional won the competition for import-substituting IT projects of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications in the Database Management Systems category. In 2016, the company completed the creation of its own Postgres Pro DBMS, which, according to the developers, is an “improved version” of PostgreSQL. The Postgres Pro DBMS is included in the Unified Register of Domestic Software.

The experts of the Center for the Study of Regional Problems have identified the most notable IT projects that have been developed as part of the Russian anti-crisis program, including import substitution. The third and fourth places were taken by the Synergy operating system and the Elbrus processor, respectively.

The operating system "Synergy" is the most famous "Russian Windows" project created by Russian Railways and the Russian Federal Nuclear Center (RFNC-VNIIEF). A pilot version of the operating system has already been written and is being tested by the Sarov Nuclear Center. On March 25, it became known that OS "Synergy" is already undergoing certification.

The Elbrus processor family is a development of the domestic company MCST. The processors are built according to the "wide instruction word" scheme. For most programs, the performance of a single thread of execution on Elbrus is higher than on an equal-frequency Intel Core processor.

The top 5 IT projects also included the National Payment Card System (NSPK JSC, 100% of the shares of NSPK JSC belong to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation), the Unified State Social Security Information System (Pension Fund of Russia) and a package of office applications "My office" (company "New cloud technologies").

Among the startups of Russian small and medium-sized businesses that are engaged in the development of IT products, the specialists of the Center noted Promobot (live robots), 3D Bioprinting Solutions (bioprinting), Fibrum (virtual reality gadget). These companies, according to the experts of the Center, have a significant potential to significantly accelerate the development of innovation.

The development of information technologies in the conditions of the economic crisis caused by a number of objective factors largely determines the competitiveness of the Russian economy as a whole and not only within the framework of import substitution. The Russian IT industry is already demonstrating a significant increase in the share of solutions by domestic developers and manufacturers.

The study analyzed public projects launched between 2014 and 2015. The key economic indicators of the projects were evaluated: the volume of investments, project profitability, social significance and the multiplier effect of the project for the economy. The audience of the project and other components of the profitable implementation of systems are analyzed.

“The crisis in the economy, and especially the policy of sanctions, has seriously affected the development of the IT industry in Russia. For the better. It would be strange to hope that in a year and a half the country will have its own Microsoft and Intel. However, recent trends in the industry point in the right direction. The projects included in the top 5 are only some of the work done, which would not have been possible without the sanctions policy and current economic problems,” said Mikhail Sokolovsky, Leading Analyst at the Center for the Study of Regional Problems.

The Russian Federal Nuclear Center () is testing the software platform it is developing based on the Synergy operating system (OS), Andrey Trishchenkov, deputy head of the IT and BP service of the Federal Nuclear Center, told TAdviser in September. According to him, testing began in the spring of 2015.

As of autumn 2015, working versions of Synergy are being tested in some enterprise systems, for example, in the ERP system.

Load tests on ERP were carried out on the basis of 2.5-3 thousand users - this number really works in the system. On the test number of users on the ERP system, the platform did not show fundamental differences in performance from Windows, says Trishchenkov.

“We were faced with the task so that productivity, in the first place, does not fall, and whether there will be a gain in the future in terms of performance is an open question,” Trishchenkov said, adding that Synergy also does not fundamentally differ from Windows in other parameters. .

In a conversation with TAdviser, a RFNC representative noted that large organizations from other industries show great interest in the platform being developed. In addition to Russian Railways, with which the nuclear center cooperates on a number of developments in the field of software, Rostec, Rosneft, Gazprom and a host of other companies are also interested in it.

Existing versions of the platform are not yet transferred to third-party organizations for testing, because it is still under development. In addition, in the form in which the working solution is now, it may not be of interest to everyone. “It needs to be brought to the final, commercial product,” notes Trishchenkov.

Hardware is a separate part of the infrastructure platform based on Synergy OS. According to the interlocutor of TAdviser, in this direction RFNC-VNIIEF has cooperation with the Scientific Research Institute of Measuring Systems named after A.I. Sedakova, where hardware components are being developed.

Development of a platform based on Synergy OS

One of the RFNC-VNIIEF presentations on the development of IT in Rosatom, published in March 2015, highlights some details about the import-independent platform being developed based on Synergy OS. In particular, about its functional features and applications.

Regarding the former, it is indicated that Synergy OS is a 64-bit operating system with mandatory access control and resource sharing. The platform based on it contains a first-level hypervisor with a multi-domain I/O structure. It also provides integration of the PostgreSQL DBMS and certification of the DBMS as part of the operating system. The platform does not require the use of imposed information protection tools.

The platform based on the Synergy OS will be able to simultaneously work in three networks with information of varying degrees of confidentiality (state secret, chipboard, Internet) using the “thin client” technology, including work with engineering applications CAD, CAM, CAE, is indicated in the presentation.

It can be used at autonomous workplaces, for building automated systems in a secure design, in real-time automated process control systems, in virtual process control systems, in control and protection systems (CPS) and physical protection systems (PSS).

According to the presentation, the Synergy OS-based platform can be used in secure geographically distributed information and control channels and in functionally distributed computing systems.

As planned by the developers, by the end of 2015, the platform is planned to be certified for operation in the chipboard and state secrets circuit, and in 2016-2017. develop its functionality and provide support for product versioning in enterprises.

2014: Development of an OS to replace Windows

In Sarov (RFNC-VNIIEF) is developing its own operating system called Synergy, the deputy director for IT of the nuclear center reported in May 2014 Oleg Krivosheev. He told TAdviser that the system being developed uses the Linux kernel, and about 70 employees of the nuclear center are involved in its creation. At the time of the announcement, the pilot version of the Synergy OS is already being used in “special systems”.

The development of Synergy OS is carried out as part of ensuring the import independence created by the center (TIS YOK), which is planned to be replicated over time at all enterprises in the industry, and in the future - to develop a standard platform for defense industry enterprises based on this system. The Sarov Nuclear Center acts as a test site for the use of TIS NUC.
