In March 2012, a survey was conducted specifically for St.M among working students in Moscow. The result is disappointing - already now there is a huge gap between the incomes of children, and almost half of the respondents after receiving a diploma are not going to work in their specialty.
Students in Moscow are actively earning extra money, many almost from the first year. To find out what you can count on when looking for a job, what problems the guys face, whether there is time for study, we conducted a survey. It was attended by more than 140 students from various Moscow universities - Moscow State University of Printing, Moscow State University, MIEM, MPEI, Moscow State University of Civil Engineering and others.

Problems

The main task of the student is study. It usually takes a lot of time. According to the survey, 44% of students devote more time to employment than education, 24% distribute their time equally, and only 33% prioritize study.

Finding time and a suitable job is not the main problem. The bad thing is that students are rarely issued according to the Labor Code, or even not issued at all. So, only half of the respondents are formalized in accordance with all the rules and receive a white salary. 20% receive part of their salary "in an envelope", and the remaining 30% did not provide the employer with any documents at all and receive a "black" salary. It must be understood that neither taxes, nor medical, nor pension contributions are paid from such income. In this case, the employer does not bear any responsibility for the student. And if he cheats, it will be difficult to prove something.

When choosing a job, check if the company you are interested in is on the list of "black" employers - you can find dozens of communities on the Internet where such information is available. Also take a closer look at the future boss - a good boss and contract work is better than a big salary.

There is a choice

Our survey showed who and where the majority of students work. We assumed that one person can combine up to three part-time jobs, so the total weight of all answers exceeds 100%.

At home university

Oddly enough, but the most popular place of work was the native university. Almost 20% of respondents work as laboratory assistants and methodologists. This is the best place to start a career in the first or second year. Of course, you should not count on a salary at least close to 10 thousand rubles a month. On the other hand, they won’t deceive you at your own university, they won’t force you to work hard in the session, it’s easy to combine work with study here, you don’t need to waste time on the road. And you can also meet important people, enlist their support, which may come in handy in the future.

Freelance

The second most popular type of activity is work at home, that is, freelancing. About 15% of respondents work as freelance journalists, editors, programmers, designers, and photographers. Of course, in order to engage in such activities, you need to write well, edit, photograph, etc. Remote work almost does not distract from studies. The only problem that may arise is a non-working environment at home or in a hostel. Experienced freelancers in such cases are advised to go to a cozy cafe along with a laptop.

The ideal case is if remote work somehow correlates with the education received. Then the student has the opportunity to form a large portfolio before receiving a diploma, providing himself with an interesting and highly paid position in the future.

A freelancer's earnings depend entirely on his skills and the amount of work done. He can get as much as 1,000 rubles for a report for a newspaper, or ten times more, working as a programmer or designer. You can start at all for free, working on your own portfolio. As it grows, so will the salary.

In the office

According to the results of the survey, office work also attracts 15% of respondents. Unlike a career at your home university, the office is the undergraduate's choice. Still, a secretary, office manager or coffee lady is unlikely to be allowed a free or too flexible schedule. There are many advantages to this kind of work. This is a relatively high salary, a warm and cozy place, the development of communication skills, meeting people.

Managers, consultants

Often, such workers are required to sit on the phone and call completely uninterested, and even negatively minded people and offer them some kind of product. Also, managers will not receive their money if they do not find customers. Some well-known network companies selling household appliances or cosmetics have long and long been placed in the tops of "black" employers. We will mean managers who work in a store with neutral or interested customers, receive a fixed salary and bonuses from sales.

12% of our survey respondents work in this position. There are plenty of pluses - a good salary, depending on the quality of work, and constant communication with people, and a huge opportunity for career growth. If you have developed communication skills and communication is only a pleasure, there are no disadvantages to such a job.

Animators, tutors, tutors

One of the most interesting part-time opportunities for a sociable, active and fun student is to get a job as an animator. His duties include the constant heating of public interest in the ongoing action. This action can be anything from a corporate or anniversary event to a children's party.

Babysitting is also an easy job for those who have been babysitting younger siblings. In one day you can get up to two thousand rubles. Devoting weekends to children, earn 16 thousand rubles a month.

A well-performing student will also not be left without earnings. The parents of a student will be happy to hire a successful Bauman student or a physicist to prepare him for the GIA or the Unified State Examination. Mass catering like McDonald's is the territory of schoolchildren and immigrants from the former Soviet republics, you need to mark the restaurant. Much more important is the experience of working in a team, communicating with colleagues, with superiors. Perhaps a good boss is the most important thing that I would like to wish a novice hard worker. The boss can become an example and inspire for good work, for self-development. He can give good advice, understand, send him on vacation during the session, etc. If the boss knows how to encourage good work, any work will be a joy.

Salary realities and expectations

The survey showed a huge gap between salaries - 32% receive less than 10 thousand rubles a month, and 21% - more than 25, while 73% are dissatisfied with their salary. Moscow authorities are concerned about the low level of student salaries. Recently, the city has a special salary co-financing program for full-time students. If the employer participates in such a program, the student will be able to additionally receive up to 8,500 rubles from the city.

The anxiety of the city authorities is also connected with the fact that universities do not prepare students for the realities of the labor market. They simply do not know how to communicate with the employer, and therefore do not fully realize themselves. Therefore, for several years now, the Youth Personnel Reserve project, implemented by the State Budgetary Institution Civil Change, has been operating in Moscow. The project involves students of all courses. For the younger ones - trainings for the development of personal qualities, such as communication skills, teamwork, oratory, etc. The older ones attend trainings based on their specialization.
